Physical Education.Every teacher has their own unique classroom procedures and expectations for student behavior and out at the PE field, it's no different. We spend a great deal of time reinforcing the routines on a regular basis so that our class can run as efficiently and effectively as possible. I use the Class Dojo app to track observable behaviors during PE.

PE RulesStudents are expected to follow the one rule of physical education, RESPECT. This can be demonstrated in three main areas:
1. Respect the Teacher. -Listen when Mr. Carey is talking -Pay attention -follow directions. -Start & stop on Mr. Carey’s signal 2. Respect Others. -Be nice/kind -no put-downs or name calling -Invite others to your team/group -work as a team 3. Respect the Equipment/materials. -Use them correctly -waste not, want not -Be safe when using them -Put them away when done 4. Respect your classroom. -everybody cleans up -trash your trash but... -recycle where you can |
PE SafetyParents, please help your student be prepared and safe during physical education by providing athletic shoes that can be securely fastened. Please have them bring or wear a pair to school on PE days. This will allow them to fully participate in all activities safely.
* No Crocs, dress shoes, flip flops, sandals, winter boots, hiking boots or slip on shoes of any type. If your child has an injury that prevents them from participating, please send a note. A parent note is good for 3 days, and then I will need a doctor's note to excuse your child from P.E. |

Class Dojo During PEWe use class dojo in Mr. Carey's PE class. It's a way to track observable behaviors in the gym, provide students instant feedback, and give parents a great insight into their student's progress in P.E.

What did you Learn at PE?Children learn best when they are given the opportunity to explore their world while moving. Gravenstein students do not just play games, they learn something new each day.
Instead of asking your child "what did you play in P.E. today", try asking them "what did you learn in P.E. today?". In a quality physical education program, students learn:

Grading4th and 5th graders receive a letter grade for PE based on their participation. Each student’s performance in their PE classes combine with the scores from their classroom teacher to form their overall PE grades. For Mr. Carey's portion of the grade, each student begins the trimester with 100/100 points. Points are added or subtracted for positive or negative behaviors respectively.
TK through 3rd graders do not receive letter grades for PE, however, do receive appropriate grade level marks for PE, teamwork, and following directions. Below are the positive and negative "dojo points" on Class Dojo! |
